The Denver Jewish Community
The Denver Jewish Community enjoys the advantages of having a solid infrastructure, while at the same time having the feel of a tight-knit and supportive community. We have two Orthodox day schools, both in East Denver, an Orthodox high school, a Bais Yaakov and Yeshiva, a non-denominational Jewish high school, many other learning options, and easy access to kosher food.

Quality of life in Denver is quite high. Believe it or not, the weather here is actually good. You can expect approximately three hundred days of sunshine a year. Gorgeous sunny days are not uncommon in mid-January or February. Of course, proximity to the beautiful Rockies is also a strong plus. The population tends to be extremely polite and laid back. Denver is a great place to raise children. If you are interested in moving here, we would like to help you out. If you have any questions regarding the Shul or other Jewish institutions, you can e-mail the Shul at manager@EDOSdenver.org.

Frequently Asked Questions about Denver:

Is Denver located in the Rocky Mountains?
No. Contrary to popular belief, Denver is not located in the mountains; it is near them. Denver is built on high plains and is one of the flattest of all American cities.

What is Denver's climate?
Nothing about Denver is more misunderstood than the city's climate. Because Denver is located just east of the Rockies and far from any source of moisture, Denver has a mild, dry and arid climate. The city receives only 8-15 inches (20.3 - 38 cm) of precipitation and records 300 days of sunshine per year - more annual hours of sun than San Diego, Calif. or Miami Beach, Fla.

Is Denver really a mile high?
Absolutely! Denver has always been known as the Mile High City. In fact, the 15th step of the state capitol is exactly 5,280 feet - one mile high. If you visit Coors Field baseball stadium while in Denver, be sure to sit in the purple seats, where you'll view the game at a mile high.

Are there any precautions I should take while being at such a high altitude?
Some people experience a little shortness of breath in Denver, but generally you have to be much higher (9,000 feet or 2,743 meters above) to feel this effect. Even when felt, the body adjusts after a day or two. Other tips for high altitude include: Use sunscreen with an SPF rating of at least 15; Drink more liquids than you would at sea level; Drink less alcohol and consume less rich foods; and, Be prepared for the most beautiful sunsets. The high altitude and spectacular natural location give Denver some of the most gorgeous sunsets on Earth.
